The Raw Thrill of Noodling

Posted by

Noodling, a fishing technique primarily found in the southern United States, is a practice as audacious as it is ancient. It involves wading into murky waters, often in rivers or lakes, and using bare hands to catch catfish that have taken refuge in underwater holes, logs, or crevices. The noodler intentionally places their hand or foot inside these potential hiding spots, waiting for a catfish to latch on. Once a fish bites, the challenge becomes wrestling the often large and powerful creature out of its lair and to the surface. It’s a visceral, one-on-one battle that relies on instinct, strength, and a healthy dose of fearlessness.
